The transition to sustainability in the transportation sector is not limited to electric batteries; alternative energy sources such as hydrogen fuel cells, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and biofuels are also rapidly gaining importance. While these green fuels stand out for their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency, they also face challenges such as infrastructure gaps, high costs and technological limitations. Hydrogen and e-fuels are considered strong candidates to replace fossil fuels, especially in sectors such as heavy transportation, aviation and maritime.
Sustainable aviation fuels can enable a rapid transformation in the sector thanks to their compatibility with existing aircraft engines, while biofuels contribute to the circular economy by encouraging the reuse of waste. The success of this transformation will be possible through R&D studies and infrastructure investments carried out jointly by the public and private sectors. This new era, shaped by a multi-fuel strategy, opens the doors to a carbon-neutral future in transportation.
