Latin America's Strong Step to Green Transformation Regional Cooperation for Sustainability in Consumption

Latin American countries have united around a common vision to strengthen environmental sustainability by signing the Brasília 2025 Declaration. This declaration aims to share sustainability information in a transparent and harmonized way throughout the life cycle of products.

At the heart of this initiative is the “Environmental Alliance of the Americas” labeling program, which aims to raise awareness of nearly 450 million consumers with verified environmental information, boost business competitiveness, and support public policy in the areas of climate, biodiversity and pollution control. This regional effort is also contributing to the development of the global Digital Product Information Systems (DPIS) framework. Speaking at the conference, Prof. Mariana Mazzucato, a member of the UN Development Policy Committee, emphasized that public procurement should focus on the public good, not just cost. Examples such as Brazil’s National School Feeding Program demonstrate the impact of public policies that promote sustainable production. These developments contribute to creating an enabling environment to support companies that are pioneers in sustainable consumption and production in the region.
