The tear resistance of fabrics directly affects the lifetime, safety and quality of the product. The TS EN ISO 13937 standard is an international test protocol used to determine the tear resistance of different fabric types. Especially in apparel, home textiles, technical textiles and outdoor fabrics, this test is an indicator of product safety.
What are TS EN ISO 13937 Test Types?
Elmendorf Tear Test – TS EN ISO 13937-1 (T)
This method measures how resistant the fabric is to tearing in one direction. A pendulum is released to tear the fabric. It is generally preferred for knitted fabrics.
Pants Cut Tear Test – TS EN ISO 13937-2 (T)
A sample in the form of a trouser cut is used in the fabric tested by stretching it on two sides. Suitable for intensive use of woven fabrics (e.g. workwear).
Wing Cut Tear Test – TS EN ISO 13937-3 (T)
This test is designed to measure the tear strength of light and thin fabrics. The test is performed by making a wing-shaped cut in the center of the fabric.
Tearing Test with Tongue Method – TS EN ISO 13937-4 (T)
This method, which is applied to fabric edges, is used to measure edge tear strength, especially in products such as curtains and awnings.
