Formaldehyde Determination Test Services
Formaldehyde content in leather products is of great importance for human health and the environment. Our laboratory offers testing services to determine the amount of free and released formaldehyde in leather using HPLC-DAD in accordance with ISO 17226-1:2021. These tests are critical to ensure that your products comply with safety standards and gain a competitive advantage in international markets.
Formaldehyde Content Tests
Definition and Importance of the Test
Formaldehyde is a potentially harmful chemical that can occur in leather processing processes. The presence of this compound in leather products should be carefully monitored, especially as it can cause allergic reactions and environmental damage. Formaldehyde determination testing is a critical step to assess the human health suitability and environmental safety of your products.
Test Procedure
Formaldehyde determination is carried out in accordance with ISO 17226-1:2021. First, the leather sample is fractionated in accordance with ISO 4044 and eluted with detergent solution. The eluate is mixed with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) to separate formaldehyde derived from other aldehydes and ketones and then analyzed by HPLC-DAD (High Performance Liquid Chromatography – Diode Array Detector). This process reliably determines the amount of formaldehyde in the skin sample.
Safety and Quality Control
In our laboratory, all necessary safety precautions are taken to perform tests safely. Personal protective equipment such as masks, face shields, goggles and gloves are used during work. In addition, all tests are performed in accordance with the “Guide to Analytical Internal Quality Control Practices”, which guarantees the reliability and accuracy of the test results.
Reporting of Test Results
Evaluation of Results
Test results are reported as the formaldehyde content of the sample in mg/kg. The reporting includes details such as the standard used, description of the sample, analytical methods and recovery rate. In addition, the results obtained for the formaldehyde content indicate whether it is above the established limit values.
Application Areas
Formaldehyde content testing is critical for leather goods manufacturers, importers and quality control laboratories. These tests help you ensure that your products comply with legal requirements, while maintaining consumer confidence and brand reputation.
