pH Determination Testing Services
pH determination is critical for the quality of leather products and their suitability for human health. Our laboratory offers testing services to determine the pH value of aqueous leather extract in accordance with TS EN ISO 4045:2018. These tests are important to ensure the safety of your products and gain a competitive advantage in international markets.
pH Determination Tests
Definition and Importance of the Test
pH determination is a test used to determine the acidic or basic character of an aqueous extract of a leather sample. The pH value of leather products is critical for the compatibility and long-term durability of the product with human skin. In particular, low pH values can have corrosive effects on leather products, while high pH values can cause skin irritation.
Test Procedure
The pH determination test is based on the principle of preparing an aqueous skin extract and measuring the pH of this extract with a pH meter. First, 50 ± 0.1 g of skin sample is weighed into a 250 ml flask and 100 ± 1 ml of distilled water is added. The sample is stirred for a certain period of time and then pH is measured from the upper liquid phase when no suspended solids remain. Prior to pH measurement, the pH meter is validated with appropriate buffer solutions. The results are reported to the nearest 0.05 pH units.
Safety and Quality Control
In our laboratory, all necessary safety precautions are taken to perform tests safely. All personnel work wearing personal protective equipment such as masks, face shields, goggles and gloves. In addition, pH determination tests are performed in accordance with the “Guide to Analytical Internal Quality Control Practices”, which guarantees the reliability and accuracy of the results.
Reporting of Test Results
Evaluation of Results
Test results are reported as pH value and results are presented as the average of two separate measurements. The report includes information such as the standard used, description of the sample, pH value and, if desired, the difference factor. In addition, if any deviations or additional processing has been performed, this information is also indicated in the report.
Application Areas
pH determination tests are of great importance for leather goods manufacturers, importers and quality control laboratories. These tests support the quality control processes of your products, giving you a competitive advantage in the market and increasing consumer confidence.
