Definition and Importance of the Test
Water vapor permeability measures how well a textile or leather product passes water vapor through the material. This test is vital for evaluating products for comfort and durability. Especially in products such as shoes, linings and uppers, water vapor permeability is a factor that directly affects user comfort.
Test Procedure
The water vapor permeability test measures the extent to which a material absorbs water vapor under a given temperature and humidity conditions. Test specimens are prepared by cutting to standard dimensions (e.g. 70 mm x 45 mm) and conditioned in the laboratory for at least 24 hours. The specimens are placed in the water vapor permeability tester and mounted on the turntable. During the test, the specimens are kept on the turntable for a certain period of time and the water vapor permeability (WVP) is calculated by measurements with silica gel.

Water Vapor Absorption Tests

Water vapor absorption measures how much water vapor a material absorbs in a given period of time. This test evaluates the resistance of products to water and the effect of moisture on the material. Especially in products such as shoes and uppers, water vapor absorption is an important indicator of product durability and user comfort.
Test Procedure
The water vapor absorption test is performed to determine how much the material absorbs water vapor over a specified period of time. Test specimens are prepared by cutting them to a specific diameter (e.g. 45 mm) and conditioned in a standard laboratory environment. The samples are placed in test vessels and exposed to water vapor for a specified time (8 hours). At the end of the time, the samples are weighed and the water vapor absorption (WVA) is calculated.
Reporting and Results
est results are reported as water vapor permeability (WVP) and absorption (WVA) values of the material. The test results of each sample are recorded in detail and the arithmetic averages are calculated. Information such as the commercial style codes of the material tested and the test dates are also reported.
