The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) have updated important technical standards and guidelines that directly affect the textile industry. With these revisions, new rules regarding both laboratory testing methods and circular economy processes have come into effect, and the deadlines for the withdrawal of the old national standards have also been clarified.
Under the announced regulations, the first significant change occurred in colorfastness tests against hot pressing. The new EN ISO 105-X11:2026 standard has come into effect, replacing the previous version dated 1996. The deadline for member countries to repeal their existing national standards that conflict with this standard has been set for December 31, 2026.
Test methods for filling materials commonly used in home textiles and apparel have also been revised. The EN 12131:2026 standard, developed to determine the quantitative composition of down and feathers using a manual method, has been published. The withdrawal date for the previous standards, which will be replaced by the EN 12131:2026 standard, has been announced as January 31, 2027.
In addition to technical tests, a critical guideline has been prepared in the field of sustainability. The latest test date that must be announced at the national level for the CEN/TS 18272-1:2026 technical specificationโwhich includes circular economy principles and general application guidelines for textile productsโhas been recorded as October 31, 2026.
The new standards will directly impact the quality control, product verification, and green transition processes of textile manufacturers and testing laboratories; companies must bring their infrastructure into compliance by the specified transition dates.
